The Mexican Government has, for some time now, been encouraging foreign investment in Mexico. Foreigners can purchase real estate directly in their name, anywhere within the interior and can also buy property 100km from the border and 50km from the coastlines (the restricted zone) as the beneficiary of a bank trust.
Over the past ten years, due to the massive increase in foreign investment into Mexico, well defined rules and regulations have been established to make the process of buying property in Mexico, safe and easy. Over 450,000 Americans and Canadians spend over 6 months of the year in Mexico and it seems this is due to increase as the 'baby boomers' reach retirement age.
Mexico, specifically the coast line, is now sought after by serious foreign investors as a market of unfounded potential growth.
